Royal Ascot tips: Kevin Blake’s 11/1 Commonwealth Cup pick on day four | Racing News

Kevin Blake found two winners in his column on Wednesday and he is back with three more fancies for day four at Royal Ascot, all live on Sky Sports Racing.

Day four of Royal Ascot is upon us and thankfully, this column finds itself in good shape after landing a couple of winners on day two. That reliefs some pressure, but now the aim is to hammer it home and turn a satisfactory week into a good one by landing a home run before the dealings done.

The Commonwealth Cup (15:05) always attracted a huge field of three-year-old sprinters and this year is no different. The Karl Burke-trained Venetian Sun is a very short price after her impressive win in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock, but she looks too short to me in a race that is deeper than the market suggests.

The one I like at the prices is the Aidan O’Brien-trained CHARLES DARWIN. The son of No Nay Never looked a tremendous sprinting prospect when beating the subsequent Group 1 winner Wise Approach in the Norfolk Stakes at this meeting last year, but a setback ruled him out for the rest of the season after that. He returned to action with a straightforward win at Navan, but seemed to blot his copybook with a poor run in a Group 3 at Naas last time. However, Ryan Moore reported that he hit a ridge and lost his action, after which he was eased down, so it is a run that can be forgiven.

Take out that run and he is likely to have been amongst the leading contenders for this race. First-time blinkers have been applied and he looks overpriced.

Sky Sports Racing’s Kieran O’Sullivan previews Friday’s Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot as True Love and Precise meet again.

The Sandringham Stakes (17:00) is yet another brutally competitive handicap and I’m siding with the Donnacha O’Brien-trained GLYFADA.

The daughter of Camelot has won two of her three starts to date, but what was most notable about her most recent victory in a winner’s race at Killarney was how well suited she seemed to be by the drop back to a mile. She is quite a fast-striding filly and the potential was there for her to be suited by it, but she really did seem to relish it.

A race like this that promises to offer a lot of pace and cover in front of her promises to really suit her and it wouldn’t surprise to see her take a significant jump forward in terms of improvement. She is a fascinating contender.

The King Edward VII Stakes (17:35) brings together some promising three-year-olds with the clear pick of them in my mind being the Aidan O’Brien-trained CAUSEWAY.

The son of Wootton Bassett has proven to be relentlessly progressive in his career thus far. His trainer has only asked him to take relative baby steps this season, starting off a win in handicap company over seven furlongs in the Madrid Handicap before progressing to win a Listed race over a mile at the Curragh and then returning to that venue to win the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes last time.

At all times he has shown himself to be a slow strider with a lazy demeanour that always had the clear potential to end up over this trip of a mile-and-a-half. He is a very likeable colt and I’m surprised that he isn’t the favourite for this race.

Mexico vs. South Korea Prediction, Odds, Picks For World Cup Match

Mexico and South Korea will face off in a highly anticipated Group A match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Guadalajara Stadium on FOX.

Both Mexico and South Korea won their openers, and either could advance and win the group with a win on Thursday.

In the opening game of the entire tournament, Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 in a runaway performance in which they dominated possession (61%) and shots (16-3).

Eli Tri’s blend of youth and experience paid off in its opening match as 35-year-old Raúl Jiménez scored his first career World Cup goal while 17-year-old midfielder Gilberto Mora became Mexico’s youngest player ever.

Mexico would win Group A with a win here and a South Africa win/draw in their match against Czechia.

Meanwhile, South Korea came from behind in its opening match against Czechia. After trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Taegeuk Warriors surged with two late goals to get a huge three points. Oh Hyeon-Gyu scored the game-winner moments after entering the match in the 80th minute.

They advance and win the group with a win against Mexico and a Czechia win/draw.

Let’s check out the odds for the massive showdown between Mexico vs. South Korea’s Group A matchup at FanDuel Sportsbook as of June 18.

Mexico vs. South Korea Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Wagering Analyst, Chris ‘The Bear’ Fallica:

  • Both teams won their openers, and with a point, are certainly through with one more. I’m kind of apathetic here as to what to expect. Was Mexico’s performance amplified because South Africa is bad? I could see this 1-0 either way or even 0-0. I won’t go crazy here. Wager on “no” on both teams to score.

Ben Stokes: England captain included in Durham’s 15-man squad for Friday’s County Championship clash with Northamptonshire | Cricket News

England captain Ben Stokes has been included in Durham’s 15-man squad for Friday’s County Championship clash with Northamptonshire.

Stokes was dropped for this week’s second Test against New Zealand after he and seamer Gus Atkinson breached a midnight curfew following the series opener at Lord’s.

The 35-year-old is yet to comment publicly on the incident amid suggestions he could resign as skipper or even retire, but he has been included in Durham’s squad.

England coach Brendon McCullum said his initial reaction of bewilderment and anger at Stokes breaching team protocols has given way to “worry and concern” following the nightclub incident.

The night ended with a member of England’s security staff being reportedly struck by a rugby player from English club Saracens in a nightclub, where Stokes was present.

The saga has heaped more scrutiny on the professionalism and culture around England’s Test team – led by McCullum and Stokes – following a humiliating Ashes tour, after which a midnight curfew was reportedly imposed on England’s players and staff.

Rob Key, England’s director of cricket, last week said the England and Wales Cricket Board was considering imposing a full alcohol ban on the England team, with the most recent Ashes tour highlighting an apparent drinking culture that still exists.

McCullum said his preference would be to allow players to celebrate their wins, just not to “excess.”

England captain for the second Test gives his verdict on Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson breaking the team curfew after the first Test

Joe Root says “there isn’t a drinking culture” and feels there is no need for an alcohol ban.

The stand-in skipper for the second Test against New Zealand at The Kia Oval refused to disclose what was said with his good friend Stokes last week.

But he told Sky Sports: “I’ve spoken with Ben, he seems in a good place in the last week or so.

“There’s been a few incidents where guys have let themselves down, but I don’t necessarily think that’s a fair reflection of our dressing room. We’ve got to obviously own it and know that that is not okay, but at the same time, I don’t think that’s a fair reflection on us as a team. We work incredibly hard.

“As a cricketer, the amount of time and pressure that you spend away from home, away from your families, in high-pressure environments, and mistakes have been made. We have to learn from those clearly, and we have to move on from those quickly, and we have to earn the trust of everyone back by being as professional as we can, and putting good performances in.

“I think Ben feels like he’s let himself down, right? My main concern is, always, you look at the person and make sure that they’re okay, so that is first and foremost the most important thing, and then in terms of this week and moving forward as a team, it’s concentrating, making sure that everyone is fully on task and understanding of what’s ahead of us and what an exciting opportunity we have.”

How to Watch the World Cup Today: Schedule, Times, TV, Streaming for Mexico, South Korea, More

Match Day 2 of the 2026 World Cup kicks off Thursday with eight Group A and Group B games over four days, and the action starts early. Mexico and South Korea, both winners in Match Day 1, meet in a pivotal Group A showdown in Guadalajara at 9 p.m. ET on FOX. Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina also get going at 3 p.m. ET in Los Angeles. All four of today’s matches air on FOX or FS1 and stream on FOX One.

  • Venue: Atlanta Stadium, Atlanta, GA

The Bayer Leverkusen forward is the focal point of Czechia’s forward line with 26 international goals in 53 caps. While Schick is one of Czechia’s many set piece targets, he has a variety of ways in which he can score. Czechia needs to be more of a threat from the run of play and that starts with Schick.

With Bayer Leverkusen, nearly all of Schick’s 16 Bundesliga goals and four Champions League goals this season were from the run of play. Czechia should be aggressive from the early going and look to get Schick involved. If Schick plays well, it could be a good day for Czechia.

Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One
  • Venue: Los Angeles Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

The FC Astana midfielder had a strong game against Canada, when he went 61 minutes and created several chances, specifically through his accurate crossing. It was his corner in the 21st minute that eventually resulted in Bosnia’s goal. His central midfield partnership with Benjamin Tahirovic was also very effective in the first half.

Against Switzerland, Basic should once again be very important to setting up Bosnia and Herzegovina’s attackers, especially if Džeko plays as he has elite aerial ability.

Canada vs. Qatar

  • Time: 6 p.m. ET
  • TV: FS1
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One
  • Venue: BC Place Vancouver, Vancouver, BC

Player to Watch

With Canada struggling for most of the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was Larin who came off the bench and delivered the equalizer. Jonathan David did not play well in the opener, and his first season at Juventus was largely disappointing. Despite the infamous end to Southampton’s season, Larin played very well for the team down the stretch to lead it into the promotional playoffs. Marsch might be tempted to ride the hot hand in this critical game and start Larin. Whether that means playing in place of David or alongside of him in a two-striker formation, Larin might be the team’s best goal-scoring threat right now based on form.

Mexico vs. South Korea

  • Time: 9 p.m. ET
  • TV: FOX
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One
  • Venue: Guadalajara Stadium, Guadalajara, Mexico

Player to Watch

With 125 career caps and 46 career goals for Mexico, it was not until last week’s win over South Africa when Jiminez finally scored in the World Cup. Now 35, the Hidalgo native is likely in his final World Cup. He was very good in the opening win, even beyond the goal. He created chances through his hold-up play, he passed well and made good runs to draw defenders. With momentum, he will be difficult for South Korea to contain.

World Cup 2026: Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi steal the show after the first round of group stage fixtures | Football News

The first round of fixtures at the 2026 World Cup have been and gone, and boy did we see some strong performances.

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe showed why they are the cream of the crop – on the same day no less – while the opening matches also allowed for new heroes to be formed such as Cape Verde’s 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha. Going from 50,000 followers to 10 million in a matter of days is one way to measure how historic your display was.

There are others to have caught the eye, but who really shone the brightest from the first 24 games? That’s where Sky Sports’ True Performance is here to help.

What is ‘True Performance’?

True Performance is Sky Sports’ unique way of measuring a player’s performance during each game of the 2026 World Cup.

Using Sky Sports’ Power Ranking system, more than 40 key pieces of data will be analysed to reflect how well a player has performed and give them a rating out of 100. The value of those stats will also be weighted based on their position. For example, if a forward scores, it carries a higher weighting because they have done the job expected of them to the highest level. If the value of the goal for a defender was the same, but they had simultaneously conceded six goals and made errors leading to three of them, their performance rating may be over-inflated when they actually had a poor defensive game.

Essentially, we are measuring how well a player has performed relative to those they are competing against and the expectations of their position.

With that said, was Messi number one? Did Mbappe top the charts? Or did someone else you wouldn’t expect sneak through? Let’s find out!

Kane England’s main man – but off the pace of rivals

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Sky Sports’ Jay Bothroyd and Jamie Weir analyse Harry Kane’s man-of-the-match display in England’s opening match against Croatia

England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in Dallas was one of the most exciting performances from a Three Lions team at a major tournament in recent memory. Especially the second half.

On paper, there were several who put on a noteworthy display. Noni Madueke impressed on his World Cup debut, as did Elliot Anderson. Statistically though, they were off the pace.

Only two England players returned with a score of 90+. Jude Bellingham silenced the doubters and proved his supporters right with a showing that highlighted his penchant for the big occasions. His second-half strike guided him to a score of 90.0 exactly, aided by a steady and efficient display at both ends of the pitch.

Unsurprisingly, it was Harry Kane who took the crown for Thomas Tuchel’s side with a score of 92.0. The captain scored twice, was the most constant presence in the opposition penalty area with seven shots and outperformed his xG by nearly double. Important to note too, his missed penalty was not factored into the equation as a retake was ordered. It is as if it never happened.

Image:
Harry Kane’s heatmap and shotmap vs Croatia

Despite leading his country to glory yet again, Kane’s performance wasn’t among the top 10 from the openers. His double paled in comparison to Erling Haaland’s on his World Cup debut. Norway’s talisman walked away with a score of 93.7. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak’s showing for Sweden was worthy of a 93.6. Kane has some work to do to get up to those heights.

How good was Vozinha’s display really?

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Hayley McQueen brings your bite-sized roundup of everything you need to know from the 2026 World Cup, the morning after Cape Verde shocked Spain with a draw and Bukayo Saka confirming he is fully fit to face Croatia

He was mentioned earlier, but Cape Verde shotstopper Vozinha won over the hearts of the world – minus Spaniards – with his incredible showing against the European champions.

He became the first 40-year-old to make seven or more saves in a World Cup game aged 40+ since Pat Jennings in 1986. He also had the most touches of any Cape Verde player with 78.

It was a heroic display that will live long in the memory and left him with a score of 93.4. But how did that compare to the tournament’s other ‘keepers?

Image:
Vozinha kept a clean sheet against Spain despite having the fourth highest xG against

Only one other goalkeeper landed a score in the nineties: Scotland’s Angus Gunn. As for other notable names, Jordan Pickford scored 42.8. Thibaut Courtois a measly 20.4. Manuel Neuer returned to international football only to pick up and 18.4.

It really puts into perspective just how heroic Vozinha was.

‘Just’ what the doctor ordered

Image:
New Zealand’s Elijah Just celebrates after scoring against Iran

Heading into the World Cup, New Zealand were the lowest-ranked side in the competition. 82nd in the FIFA world rankings, many would’ve predicted them to have been one of the teams to leave the tournament without a point.

However, thanks to one man, they remain firmly in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages. Elijah Just’s double saw Darren Bazeley’s side earn a point against Iran, which leaves them standing tall in Group G thanks to Egypt and Belgium also drawing.

Not only did Just find the net twice, but the winger was also a top-three performer on the night in chances created, final third passes and with a conversion rate of 100 per cent, it was efficiency at its finest from the Motherwell star.

Messi and Mbappe top the charts – but are split by one man

Finally then, who was top of the pops after the first 24 games? After his hat-trick against Algeria, it would’ve always been hard to take the crown from Messi. Three goals, most chances created, most touches in the opposition box, second most forward passes. The list goes on.

As a result, the Argentine scores the perfect 100 rating. Does that actually mean it was the perfect performance? Not necessarily. It sets the bar for the rest of the tournament to achieve. If someone else has a better game, that rating of 100 could drop down. But for now, this is what everyone else has to try and match.

Image:
Lionel Messi’s touch map and shot map versus Algeria

Perhaps more interestingly, Mbappe’s show-stealing effort against Senegal wasn’t even enough for him to be second. He takes the bronze medal spot as a surprising name finishes second.

That man is Brighton’s Yasin Ayari. That’s right. On the biggest stage with the biggest players, a man who barely started half of his 29 Premier League appearances mixed with the best.

Despite having fewer goal contributions than compatriot Isak, his double from midfield stands him head and shoulders above every midfielder. Vitinha, Pedri, Declan Rice. None could hold a candle to the 22-year-old. Expect more surprises like that as the World Cup goes on.

Switzerland vs. Bosnia And Herzegovina Prediction, Odds, Picks For World Cup Match

Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina will face off in their second group game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 18, at Los Angeles stadium on FOX.

After both Group B openers were 1-1 draws last week, none of the four teams can advance or be eliminated on Thursday. Both Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina followed a similar game script in their first match of the tournament, scoring in the first half and then surrendering a late equalizer to settle for a draw.

Switzerland outshot Qatar 26-6 in its first World Cup match but were only able to capitalize on one goal, which came off a penalty kick from Breel Embolo.

Bosnia & Herzegovina is now unbeaten in nine straight games, matching the longest undefeated streak in team history. However, the last six games of that streak have been draws.

In this pivotal match, who will take control of Group B?

Let’s check out the odds for the Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina matchup at FanDuel Sportsbook as of June 18.

Switzerland vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Wagering Analyst, Chris ‘The Bear’ Fallica:

  • The Swiss did everything but finish — literally and figuratively — against Qatar. If they continue to get a high number of the high-quality shots they did in the opener, eventually they’ll get some good fortune. Bosnia was pretty meh in the opener and managed a point against Canada, but looked very vulnerable when Canada brought on Cyle Larin. Breel Embolo, Dan Ndoye and Switzerland will ask a lot of questions. I’m backing Switzerland to win, record a clean sheet, and take over 14.5 shots.

Victor Munoz transfer news: Liverpool hijack Newcastle’s move for Osasuna winger after triggering release clause | Football News

Osasuna winger Victor Munoz has completed a medical after Liverpool triggered his £34.5m release clause.

Newcastle were pursuing the Spain international but Liverpool have once again beaten them to a top target as they did with Hugo Ekitike last summer.

Sky Sports News understands Munoz is expected to sign a six-year contract, and Liverpool will pay the transfer fee in two instalments.

Liverpool have had a long-term interest in Munoz, which was accelerated by the arrival of new head coach Andoni Iraola, who knows the player well from his extensive knowledge of LaLiga.

Munoz, currently with Spain at the World Cup, completed a medical in the US on Wednesday after Liverpool staff travelled to complete the checks.

The Spanish Football Federation granted permission for Munoz to complete the formalities of the transfer.

Munoz joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy aged 11 before eventually making the switch to Real Madrid’s youth team in 2023.

Current Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso gave the winger his LaLiga debut for the first team in May 2025, introducing him as a substitute for Vinicius Junior against Barca.

Munoz signed a five-year deal at Osasuna that summer and played 34 league games last season, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

What does it mean for Diomande?

Liverpool had always planned to sign more than one winger this summer, as they look to replace Mohamed Salah, and Munoz’s arrival does not end their interest in RB Leipzig’s in-demand winger Yan Diomande, who is their top wide target this summer.

However, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international will be very hard to get over the line because of the widespread interest from top clubs in Europe and Leipzig’s attempts to sign him to a new contract. The German club want more than £86m to sell.

Image:
Ivory Coast’s Yan Diomande (11) is also a target for Liverpool

How do Liverpool see Munoz fitting in?

Liverpool wanted to add more flexibility to their forward line this summer and Munoz fits that bill. He has primarily been used off the left but can play on both wings and also has the capacity to play through the middle.

As well as being a multi-functional attacker, Munoz is a direct winger who will add pace to Liverpool’s attack which was another priority for the summer window.

Munoz’s versatility will provide Iraola with more options and gives Liverpool a greater ability to cope when injuries hit as they did last season as well as enhancing competition for places.

His ability to play in numerous positions is also seen as a positive inside Liverpool because it he is unlikely to limit Rio Ngumoha’s first-team opportunities.

Image:
Rio Ngumoha had a breakthrough season at Liverpool in 2025/26

What does this mean for Chiesa?

Federico Chiesa’s future was always uncertain heading into the summer window after his opportunities were limited under former head coach Arne Slot.

Iraola wants to give everyone a clean slate and there is a feeling inside Liverpool that the Italy winger is more suited to the Spaniard’s style of football than Slot’s.

However, the arrival of Munoz combined with the likelihood of another signing in Chiesa’s position complicates his chances of playing a bigger role under Iraola after Slot handed him just one Premier League start last season.

The 28-year-old, who has two years left on his deal, has interest from Italy and wants to be a first-team regular. As it stands, it appears that might prove to be tough at Anfield.
